Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back, and so is the drama

The return of the Fantasy Bra with Kylie Jenner left many fans speechless, but not because they loved it. What is left of the brand Victoria’s Secret? Many fans are asking whether Victoria’s Secret is changing its image for better or for worse.

The Show

This year’s long-awaited Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show took place last Sunday at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City (Los Angeles, USA). The so-called “Super Bowl for the Girls“ was followed by millions in a livestream on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Creative Director Adam Selman shared his vision for the four seasons with viewers. The show featured a spring, a summer, an autumn, and two winter segments, with the youthful PINK halftime show shaking things up in the middle.

Victoria’s Secret: Out with the old, in with the new

In recent years, Victoria’s Secret has faced several challenges: declining viewership, heavy criticism of its beauty standards, and the need to change its image to become more inclusive and diverse. Now the brand is betting on new faces and bringing content creators, social media personalities, and sports stars like Trinity Rodman, Quenlin Blackwell, and Gabriela Moura onto the runway. Each of them brings their own audience to the show. This approach was met with a lot of skepticism and frustration from fans, especially after it emerged that some of the OG Angels, like Romee Strijd and Taylor Hill, had been turned down for this year’s show. The debate got more heated when Romee Strijd shared her disappointment in a TikTok video and also criticized the brand’s communication throughout the selection process. Fans quickly sided with her, and the former Angel received a lot of support online.

The Fantasy Bra and Kylie Jenner

The new casting approach was not the only thing that kept the Internet busy. After eight years, the iconic Fantasy Bra made its comeback, and it was Kylie Jenner who wore it. Once again, the question of who deserves the spotlight came up. For decades, the Fantasy Bra has been the crown jewel of the Victoria’s Secret runway, traditionally reserved for the show’s most celebrated Angels. In the past, it was worn by Angels with long Victoria’s Secret careers, like Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima, Elsa Hosk, and Alessandra Ambrosio. It is considered the highest recognition: an honor and a true privilege. Many fans therefore saw it as disrespectful to hand it to Kylie Jenner in her runway debut while overlooking longtime Victoria’s Secret models like Gigi Hadid. Nonetheless, many viewers agreed that Kylie Jenner’s walk and performance made for a strong debut.

Time to talk about the music

Debates aside, the show also delivered a full entertainment experience, with performances by Katseye, Megan Thee Stallion, Tate McRae, and Megan Moroney, who kept the energy high. Tate McRae was the absolute highlight of the music acts. With her music, choreography, walk, and aura, she embodied everything the show stands for and made it look effortless.

Best Looks

Not only were new faces part of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but the lineup also consisted of Angels like Gigi and Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, Elsa Hosk, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls, Imaan Hammam, Anok Yai, Alex Consani, and Ashley Graham. Bella Hadid opened the show in a spring look, while Adriana Lima closed the finale in her 21st show. Whether Victoria’s Secret is changing for better or worse is up to the fans to decide. But even after all these years, the brand still knows how to get everyone talking.
