Giuseppe Marsocci is deciding Armani’s future

The new CEO and division of the responsibilities in the Armani Group are here to be witnessed. On October 16 a new Chief Executive Officer was named – Giuseppe Marsocci. What does it mean for the company? What does a CEO do? How is Armani’s team structured now? Let’s take a closer look at this transition and try to answer the questions.

What is a CEO’s job?

The CEO has to lead all the employees towards success, manage operations and resources of the company. This job requires undertaking major corporate decisions, which should help the company achieve its vision and mission. Armani‘s website says that the company’s vision stands on 3 pillars.

People – to care about people’s well-being, talent development, inclusion and uniqueness
Planet – to stand for environmental protection and efficient use of resources
Prosperity – to operate with new business models to create economic, social and environmental value, generate profit and act on behalf of the community.

Hence Giuseppe Marsocci will serve as the public face of the company, aiming to continue what Armani has started. To help the company stand firm on those three pillars.

Who is Giuseppe Marsocci?

Marsocci was born in Turin, in 1963, December 20. He has graduated in Economics and Business from the University of Turin. After that his life was inseparably linked with fashion. For more than 35 years he has been a part of the luxury industry, of which 23 years he dedicated to Armani. Mentioned in different media outlets he has worked before in GFT Group, Valentino, Dior, Ungaro, Stone Island and Fila Sport (HDP Group).

As it is to be known from his “Linked in”, Giuseppe M. has a highly international
profile. He had worked not only with the Italian market, but also with the American (CEO of Giorgio Armani Corporation, working in New York) and Swiss (managed Armani’s branch in Switzerland) markets. His main working roles were tied up with sales management, international and business development of the brands.

Armani’s New Team

On October 16, Vogue wrote about the announcement of the new CEO of Armani. The decision was made without a dissentient voice by the board of directors. From now on Giuseppe Marsocci will be the main bridge of communication between the board of directors and corporate operations. But who are Armani’s board of directors and what’s their purpose? Let’s break down together two main people from the Armani group that you need to know.

Leo Dell’Orco is the head of Armani’s men’s design and was “Giorgio Armani’s right-hand man”, he is the person responsible for almost all the different lines of Armani designs. According to Forbes Australia Giorgio Armani’s will stated that Dell’Orco will inherit a 30% stake in the business. Moreover, Dell’Orco is declared to be the president of the Giorgio Armani Group. Silvana Armani is the vice president, designer’s niece and she leads the womenswear division. For many years she has been working hard to continue the legacy of her uncle. Silvana Armani and Leo Dell’Orco were one of the responsible people that decided on the fate of the new CEO.

What does the appearance of the new CEO mean for the company?

From now on it is expected that Giuseppe Marsocci will be the one who will curate the sale of 15% of shares of the company. We know that Giorgio Armani prioritized such potential share buyers as LVMH, L’Oreal and EssilorLuxottica. Marsocci has not yet made a public claim of his future plans. Although we are sure that no radical changes are to be done yet, since Giuseppe said in his recent interview that they will  “..do everything to perpetuate Giorgio Armani’s business model and his idea of beauty ….. taking into account the values and expectations of a changing world”.

Giorgio Armani will forever be remembered as one of the greatest designers of the 20th century. He came a long way to master his incredible designing ability, he started his own brand at 41. Having great knowledge about the anatomy of the human body, his goal was to create not just beautiful and fascinating clothes, but also make it wearable and comfortable. Armani had combined together both roles: managerial and creative. Now, however,  the role of CEO is passed onto other hands, Giuseppe Marsocci’s hands. With that in mind, we will be spectating all together this gradual transformation in the Armani groups and its designs.
