It’s lights, camera, action, as on the streets of Milan the troupes of The Devil Wears Prada 2 are on the hunt for the perfect takes. Just a couple months after we got the announcement a second movie of the fabulous fashion comedy was in works, the production moved its headquartes from Hollywood to the chic vias of Milan.
Where were we?
We left off the first The Devil Wears Prada with Andy regaining her integrity: reconnecting with her boyfriend and searching for a job in journalism. The switch in her career came after being disappointed of the way things work in fashion. Miranda, on the other hand, in the last minutes of the movie, is depicted as the fashion icon she’s always been, acknowledging Andy from afar.
With such an open ending, no one really knew what to expect from the sequel. Anne Hathway, that played Andy Sachs in the original movie, involved in numerous projects in the last few years didn’t seem to be prioritising The Devil Wears Prada 2. However, the american actress has been spotted on set a lot since production began. It’s safe to say that one of everyone’s favourite fashion girlies is making a return to the big screen.
So good two be back
What we know so far about the sequel is that, apart from Hathway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are also taking on the roles of Miranda Pristley and Emily Charlton respectively. In fact, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to follow Miranda through navigating her career in front of the decline of traditional magazine publishing. The latter, has turned from being her assistant into the executive of a luxury group with funding that Priestley really needs.
The way this plot will tie in with Andy’s comeback and the addition of new characters portrayed by the likes of Simone Ashley, Kenneth Branagh, who plays Miranda Priestly’s husband and others, is not completely clear. However with David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, the directors and writers of the original movie, we can presume their stories will blend in a smooth way.
Milan takes the main role
A movie about fashion could not skip the powerhouse that Milan is in this area. With production already underway since July of this year, in early September voices spread that the team of The Devil Wears Prada 2 was going to organise castings in Milan. People working in communications were requested, as the directors wanted to make the movie as authentic as possible. There were thousands of applications that helped find the couple hundred of people that went on to e selected.
However, the team did not stop their Milan plans just to the open casting. They surprised everyone at the Dolce&Gabbana show, by having Meryl Streep show up in her Miranda Priestley persona and rolled during the actual presentation, as the brand got exclusivity on the movie.
And now, starting today and till the 18th of October, Milan has officially become the stage for the filming of some scenes for The Devil Wears Prada 2. Palazzo Parigi is the headquarters of the actors and directors, while, on the 10thof October, the Duomo is set to take a central role. A big scene is expected to be filmed right in front of the monument. There have been indiscretions that the cast will film during Lady Gaga’s concerts that are scheduled for the 15th and the 16th of October as well (Corriere della Sera).
So, these days, while taking a stroll along the streets of Milan, keep an eye out for the iconic The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast!
